Swimmer Archie Goodburn has secured government commitments on brain cancer care after making an emotional appeal for more research funding on BBC Breakfast and meeting Prime Minister Andy Burnham. [1]
The government has announced a national clinical lead for brain cancer and a review of progress, alongside action intended to help patients receive treatment sooner, the BBC reports. [1]
Goodburn, 25, was diagnosed with three inoperable brain tumours two years ago. After meeting Burnham, he said all three of his requests had been “promised to some extent”, but that the details still needed to be worked out. [1]
Burnham called the swimmer “an inspiration to us all” and said he was delighted to welcome him to Downing Street. [1]
