A schoolgirl injured in a knife attack in Slovakia has died in hospital, the education minister says, bringing the reported death toll to two.

A 61-year-old teacher died after a pupil attacked people with a knife at an elementary school in Staškov, north-west Slovakia, on Tuesday morning. A schoolgirl was in critical condition, and another teacher was taken to hospital with stab injuries. A hospital spokesperson later said the injured teacher was stable and no longer in danger of death. [1] [2]
Police said the suspect was in custody and there was no further threat to the public. The motive was not immediately known. Police have opened an investigation into suspected premeditated murder, Slovak broadcaster TN Live reported. [1] [2]
The girl died of her injuries in hospital, Education Minister Tomáš Drucker said in remarks reported by ANP/AFP. A 61-year-old teacher also died after Tuesday’s attack at a school in Staškov, north-west Slovakia. Another teacher, aged 44, was injured. [4]
Authorities have detained a 13-year-old pupil. The motive remains unclear, and Drucker previously declined to say whether bullying was linked to the attack. [4]
