UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged countries to use technology and finance to make nutritious food more accessible, in a World Food Day video message published on 2 October. He said around 645 million people faced hunger in 2025, while nearly 2.7 billion cannot afford a healthy diet. [1]
Guterres said overlapping crises were disrupting food production and supply chains and raising food and fertiliser costs. He argued that the world has the knowledge, technology and capacity to feed everyone, and called for greater use of data and artificial intelligence alongside finance to improve the availability and affordability of nutritious food, particularly in developing countries. For World Food Day on 16 October, Guterres also called for researchers, farmers, Indigenous Peoples and young people to help build more productive and resilient food systems. [1]
