The former Chelsea captain says he wants a break and more time with his family after ending his playing career.

Former Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta has retired after spending last season at Sevilla. In an interview published by BBC Sport on 4 October, the 37-year-old said he could probably still play, but no longer had the energy to commit fully to an entire season. [1]
Azpilicueta joined Chelsea in 2012, captained the side to victory in the 2021 Champions League final and left in 2023. He said he still follows every Chelsea match. [1]
Azpilicueta has collected a diploma in global football sport directorship, but replied “maybe” when asked whether he might become a sporting director. For now, he said, he wants to spend time with his family and play golf. [1]
