Jamie Miller’s viral hit *Babydoll* has reached number one in the UK singles chart, making him the first Welsh artist to top it in 15 years.
Miller, who is from Pontprennau in Cardiff, narrowly beat Tate McRae’s *Housewife*, according to the Official Charts Company. The last Welsh artist to reach number one was Sian Evans, whose vocals featured on DJ Fresh’s *Louder* in 2011.
The 29-year-old is also the first Welsh male solo artist to top the chart since Shakin’ Stevens in 1985. In a message to the Official Charts Company, Miller said: “I don't even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys.”
*Babydoll*, released on 7 August, gained momentum after actress Jennifer Love Hewitt posted videos featuring the track. It sparked a TikTok dance trend, reached number one on the US iTunes pop chart and gave Miller his first appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song narrowly missed the UK top spot the previous week.
Miller first came to wider attention as a 19-year-old contestant on *The Voice UK*, finishing third in the show’s sixth series. He has also recorded a version of *Babydoll* with actor Antonio Cipriano.
