Greece has handed over the remains of Tsar Samuel to Bulgaria in an exchange that also returned historical objects to Greece.
Review information is loading.
The handover took place at a museum in Thessaloniki. Greece also received almost 50 objects taken by Bulgarian troops from Greek monasteries and churches during the First World War. [1]
Samuel ruled a Bulgarian empire from 997 to 1014. His remains were excavated in 1965 and kept at Greece’s Museum of Byzantine Culture. [1]
The exchange follows decades of negotiations over Samuel’s remains and other historical objects. [1]
