King Carl Gustaf addressed Sweden’s parliament at the opening of its parliamentary year. He wished for a year marked by sensitivity, honesty and a long-term outlook, Nieuws.nl reported, citing the Swedish royal court. [1]
The king also spoke about uncertainty around the world and expressed hope for a society built on trust and safety, where democracy remains strong. Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia attended the address. [1]
The royal family and parliamentarians sang the national anthem before the speech. Swedish media cited by Nieuws.nl said an army band played excerpts of ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ and Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’ as the royal party arrived. [1]
