Paris St-Germain and Barcelona, the Champions League’s top two teams by goals scored this season, meet on Tuesday in a fixture that brings together prolific attacks, recent European success and a host of leading players.
Paris St-Germain and Barcelona meet in the Champions League on Tuesday, with both sides among the competition’s leading scorers and strong contenders to make the league-phase encounter one of its most entertaining fixtures. PSG sit above Barcelona at the top of the table on goals scored; no other team has scored more than either club this season. [1]
PSG won 2-1 when the teams met at the same stage last season, then went on to claim a second consecutive Champions League title. The French side have also knocked Barcelona out over two legs in the quarter-finals in recent seasons. [1]
Their attacking records offer plenty of reason to expect another open contest. Since the start of the 2025 Club World Cup, Barcelona have scored 192 goals in 68 matches across Europe’s top five leagues, an average of 2.82 per game. PSG have scored 154 in 67, or 2.3 per game; only Bayern Munich have a higher rate than either. [1]
Barcelona have scored at least three goals in 10 of their 11 matches in all competitions this season, and at least five in six. PSG, meanwhile, beat Strasbourg 3-1 on Saturday despite making eight changes from the side that had won 4-2 in the Champions League three days earlier. [1]
The BBC’s Spanish football reporter Elizabeth Conway said Barcelona’s new signings had added pace and directness to the attack, while European football journalist Raphael Honigstein said PSG had earned the right to rest players. [1]
There is individual star power as well as recent success. Eight of the 14 highest-placed players in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings were at PSG or Barcelona, including winner Ousmane Dembélé, third-placed Vitinha and runner-up Lamine Yamal. Thirteen players from the two clubs were among the 30 listed for the 2026 award. [1]
PSG manager Luis Enrique has a particularly close connection to Barcelona: he played for the club, managed its first team from 2014 to 2017 and led it to the 2014-15 Champions League title. He has since won the competition with PSG.
