The documentary *NAZA* has drawn 62,000 cinema-goers in the Netherlands in just over two weeks, its distributor Cherry Pickers told the ANP on Monday. The film is showing in 81 cinemas, while 22,200 people have seen it in Belgium and Luxembourg, the distributor said. [1]
The film features 24 Israeli army and intelligence whistleblowers describing how the military has conducted operations in Gaza. They allege that artificial intelligence models are used to help identify alleged Hamas leaders, and that the models are not always sufficiently careful. [1]
Since opening in Dutch cinemas on 1 October, *NAZA* has also stirred controversy in Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called it a “false, misleading and biased story”. The film’s makers have faced a threatened defamation case, and Netanyahu has ordered an inquiry into the sources used by the filmmakers, according to Nieuws.nl. [1]
The film won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. At the filmmakers’ request, it was not screened in the Netherlands around 7 October, the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians three years earlier. [1]
