Argentine President Javier Milei has called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez a “dictator” and urged voters to remove his Socialists from office at next month’s election, prompting Spain’s government to accuse him of interference.
Milei made the remarks at an economic forum during a visit to Madrid. He also called Sánchez a “thief” and “corrupt”, according to the Spanish news agency EFE and French news agency AFP, cited by Nieuws.nl.
Spain’s foreign ministry condemned what it described as Milei’s “attacks, insults and calls to violence”. It said it was shameful for the leader of a “sister country” to visit Spain with the sole aim of stirring up polarisation and violence.
Milei had no meeting planned with Sánchez during the visit. The Argentine president urged Spaniards to “kick out the socialists”, calling Spain “the cradle of liberalism”.
