The BBC will pause *DIY SOS* in 2027 and replace it with a cheaper spin-off revisiting projects from the programme’s past, the corporation says. The move comes as it seeks to save £500m over three years.
The renovation series, presented by Nick Knowles, will not be axed, the BBC said, rejecting reports that it was being scrapped as part of cost-cutting plans. The new programme, *DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life*, will be made by the same producers, South Shore.
The BBC said the spin-off would revisit past successes and expand the programme’s brand “in a more cost-effective way”. It is currently airing its 35th series on BBC One and iPlayer, having first aired in 1999.
The corporation has already cancelled *Blankety Blank*, *Celebrity Mastermind* and *Live at the Apollo* as part of its savings drive. *DIY SOS* has become known for major renovations for families facing illness, disability, bereavement or building disasters, as well as special projects including housing for veterans and a community centre rebuilt after the Grenfell Tower fire.
