Yemen’s Houthi-run health ministry said shops at the central market near Mawiya junction had been hit on Sunday, 27 September. It put the preliminary toll at seven dead and 40 injured. Five of those injured were children, ANP/AFP reported, citing the Houthi broadcaster Al-Masirah. [1] [2]
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree accused a Saudi fighter jet of carrying out two strikes on the market. DPA reported no immediate Saudi comment on his allegation. [5]
September Net said Yemeni armed-forces aircraft had struck Houthi vehicles at a newly established camp in al-Houban, east of Taiz. Separately, the Taiz Axis media centre said aircraft had struck a camp and Houthi vehicles at Mawiya junction, DPA reported. Neither account identifies Saudi aircraft as carrying out those operations. [3] [5]
Three Yemeni government military sources told Reuters that Houthi fighters had recently set up a camp near the market. How close it was to the shops, and whether the reported market strike was part of the military operations described by government-side sources, remain unclear. [4]
