Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga with a 6-1 win over Deportivo Alavés on Saturday, five days after losing 2-1 at home to Real Madrid.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each scored twice, while Fermín López and Anthony Gordon also found the net. Frenkie de Jong started in central defence and was substituted late in the match. Barcelona led 4-0 at half-time.
Atlético Madrid had briefly moved above Barcelona after beating Levante 2-0 earlier on Saturday. Barcelona now have 30 points after 11 matches, two ahead of Atlético. Real Madrid, on 24 points before Sunday’s match, could reach 27 with a win at Racing Santander.
The victory followed Barcelona’s 5-2 win over Real Betis, which had made it nine league wins from nine, and their subsequent defeat by Madrid in El Clásico. Barcelona’s loss to Real Madrid ended their nine-match unbeaten run in domestic competition.
