Marco Borsato appeared at Utrecht District Court on Wednesday to seek reimbursement of several hundred thousand euros in legal and expert costs from his criminal case, saying he hoped to put the six-year ordeal behind him.
The singer said the hearing concerned a technical procedure that allows people who have been acquitted to claim some of their costs. “It has taken a long time and cost a lot,” he told reporters on arrival, according to Nieuws.nl.
Borsato said he had prepared an itemised account of his expenses for the court. He described the claim as “not a matter of principle”, adding: “This is part of the system, and it’s no different for me than for others.”
He called the hearing “the last stretch” of a case that had shaped his life in recent years. “This has been a process of six years for me. I’m a bit fed up with it,” he said.
