Former Merseyside Police constable Ryan Theaker has been jailed for 11 years after being convicted of rape, sexual assault and assault by penetration. Judge Brian Cummings KC designated him a dangerous offender at Liverpool Crown Court and imposed an extended five-year licence period. Theaker was convicted after a trial in September. [1]
According to the BBC’s court report, the woman secretly recorded Theaker after a night out in 2023. The BBC says she told him to “get off me” more than 300 times during an 82-minute attack in a Liverpool hotel room. The judge described the recordings as “harrowing”; the BBC reported that they captured her crying throughout. [1]
The woman, who cannot be named, addressed Theaker at sentencing and told him “monsters never win”. His barrister, Jenny Tallentire, said he had accepted his guilt since the trial and was “ashamed”. The judge said he had taken account of Theaker’s public service and the increased risk he would face in custody because he had been a police officer. [1]
Assistant Chief Constable Karen Jaundrill said Theaker’s conduct had no place in policing and was not representative of Merseyside Police officers and staff. [1]
