Heumen says its costs since the 1 September violence include home closures and camera surveillance, and that it is discussing the matter with the Dutch government.
Review information is loading.
The aftermath of violence in Overasselt on 1 September has cost the Dutch municipality of Heumen hundreds of thousands of euros, a municipal spokesperson told the ANP news agency [1]. No precise total was given.
The spokesperson said the costs included direct measures linked to the incident, such as closing homes and setting up camera surveillance, as well as indirect costs. The municipality said it was discussing the matter with the national government and described the violence as part of a nationwide problem of criminal subversion.
Heumen’s mayor, Joerie Minses, told the Dutch current affairs programme Nieuwsuur on 1 October that the municipality was seeking financial support, according to ANP. He referred to substantial camera-surveillance bills but gave no amount [1].
