Go Ahead Eagles says it has identified several people involved in setting off fireworks and causing disorder surrounding Saturday’s abandoned match against Cambuur in Leeuwarden. The club has withdrawn their away-match registration and imposed local stadium bans while it awaits possible nationwide bans from the Dutch football association, the KNVB.
The match was stopped in the 80th minute, with Cambuur leading 4-0, after fireworks were set off in the away section. Referee Serdar Gözübüyük restarted play after a 30-minute stoppage, but ended the game for good shortly afterwards when another loud bang was heard.
Go Ahead says its measures apply to people whose involvement in the fireworks or post-match disorder is clear from available footage. The club says its investigation is continuing and it is reviewing more footage to identify others. Any further action, it says, will depend on each person’s established involvement and responsibility.
