A statement shared by more than 30 cultural institutions in Groningen sets out plans to ban camera-equipped smart glasses inside cultural buildings and at events, Nieuws.nl reported on Friday [1]. The institutions intend to add the restriction to their house rules, but the report gives no start date.
According to Nieuws.nl, the sector says the glasses could be used to film visitors, staff and artists without their knowledge, raising privacy and safety concerns. Nieuws.nl names the Groninger Museum, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Het Houten Huis, Vera and Noorderlicht among the statement’s signatories.
Nieuws.nl also reports that the statement’s authors urge people not to normalise the technology and call on the government to set clear rules protecting privacy and freedom.
