Bart van den Brink says the Netherlands will not pay a solidarity contribution to Italy if it continues to refuse asylum returns.

Dutch asylum and migration minister Bart van den Brink said during a debate on Wednesday that the Netherlands would not pay a solidarity contribution to Italy if it continued to refuse to take back asylum seekers. [1]
The dispute concerns people who register in Italy before travelling to the Netherlands to seek asylum. EU arrangements can allow their return to Italy, but Italy must accept them. ANP reports that Italy is not yet accepting those returns. Countries such as the Netherlands make solidarity contributions to help Mediterranean states facing greater pressure under the EU’s asylum arrangements. [1]
Van den Brink said he would raise compliance with the recently introduced European Migration Pact with his European counterparts and the European Commission at a forthcoming meeting. [1]
