Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio is set to auction his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner’s medal after being declared bankrupt, BBC Sport reports. The sale at Budd’s in Northamptonshire is scheduled for 13 October. Dallaglio was part of the England team that beat Australia to win the tournament. [1]
The medal is expected to fetch £50,000 to £80,000. Other items up for sale include a British and Irish Lions cap and winner’s medals from the 1993 World Cup Sevens and the 2003 Six Nations Championship. The collection has an estimated value of £180,000. [1]
In remarks on The High Performance podcast quoted by BBC Sport, Dallaglio attributed his bankruptcy to his divorce. He said he had experienced financial problems and “could’ve done things a lot better”. [1]
