James McKenna, 58, was jailed for 24 years at Swansea Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty of attempting to murder his former partner, Joanne Sidaway, 49. He stabbed her repeatedly in Carmarthen Park in January and fled, prompting a four-day manhunt, according to a BBC correspondent at the court. [1]
McKenna had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. At his trial, he said he had wanted to cause Sidaway serious harm but had not intended to kill her. A jury found him guilty of attempted murder in July. [1]
Jurors heard that Sidaway’s coat had 17 areas of damage and were shown images of injuries to her chest, arm and hand. The court heard that McKenna would spend two-thirds of his sentence in prison before being released on licence. [1]
