Birdwatchers counted about 500,000 migrating birds flying over the Netherlands on Saturday, 3 October, during Euro Birdwatch, Vogelbescherming Nederland said. Observers worked at more than 126 locations and recorded 208 bird species in all. [1]
This was the 31st year that Vogelbescherming Nederland organised the annual event. The organisation says tens of thousands of birdwatchers take part across dozens of European countries each year. [1]
Vogelbescherming Nederland uses Euro Birdwatch to draw attention to bird migration and the protection of migratory birds. It says climate change, intensive farming and illegal hunting are adding to the pressures they face. [1]
