Hajar’s family relieved by arrest but grieving her death

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Hajar, 29, in Amsterdam. Her family says it is relieved by the arrest but remains in deep mourning.

The arrest was announced at a press conference on Tuesday evening. Police tracked down the man, who is from Somalia and has a residence permit, after receiving several tips since Hajar was reported missing on 4 October. He is suspected of involvement in her death; the announcement does not establish his guilt. [1]

A spokesperson for Namens de Familie said Hajar’s relatives had been kept informed about the investigation. The family shared a photograph of her with police to help their inquiries. It is now asking for “peace, anonymity and complete privacy” as they say goodbye to their loved one. [1]
