Peterborough councillors will consider extra funding for a station walkway after archaeological finds and other pressures delayed the project by 11 weeks.

Peterborough City Council’s cabinet is due to consider an extra £1.6m for City Link at a meeting on 1 October. The proposed funding would cover rising costs on the project, which includes a walkway over Queensgate roundabout linking the railway station with Cowgate. City Link is the first phase of the wider £65m Station Quarter scheme. [1]
The council says the discovery of more than 60 skeletons beneath the roundabout, together with international events, has delayed completion by 11 weeks and increased costs. [1]
The extra money would be reallocated from a £5m Towns Fund pot. An earlier £1.5m allocation for City Link was approved; if the cabinet agrees to the proposal, the project’s allocation from the fund would rise to more than £3m. [1]
The cabinet is also due to consider money from the sales of two sites bought with Towns Fund cash but later judged unsuitable: the former TK Maxx site in Bridge Street and the Goods Shed at Fletton Keys. Their sales could make £4.5m available for other projects. [1]
