Review information is loading.
Denmark topped Eurostat’s newly published comparison of breast cancer screening in 2024, with 82.1% of eligible women aged 50–69 recorded as screened. Sweden followed at 82.0% and Finland at 81.6%. Hungary had the lowest reported rate, at 27.2%, followed by Cyprus at 29.2%. [1]
Compared with 2019, screening rates rose in nine countries with available data, were unchanged in Sweden and Finland, and fell in 11. Slovakia recorded the largest rise, of 12.5 percentage points; Malta recorded the largest fall, of 21.8 percentage points. [1]
The figures cover mammography recorded through organised national screening programmes, generally within the previous two years or the interval recommended in each country. Programme arrangements differ and may have changed during the period. Bulgaria and Romania have no national breast cancer screening programme, while figures for Greece are unavailable. [1]
Mammography equipment is a separate measure: Greece had 7.6 units per 100,000 residents, the highest availability among countries with equipment data, while Sweden had 1.1. [1]
