Norway’s King Haakon joined volunteers collecting door to door in Kvitsøy on Sunday for NRK’s annual televised fundraising campaign, which this year is supporting refugees. The proceeds will go to the Norwegian Refugee Council, known as NRC, according to Nieuws.nl. [1]
The royal court announced the collection location on Sunday morning. Nieuws.nl reported that many residents of Kvitsøy, Norway’s smallest municipality, turned out for the visit. The court shared photographs of Haakon taking part.
Speaking to NRK in Kvitsøy, Haakon said it was “fantastic” to visit and join the collection, adding that many people there wanted to support the volunteers and the campaign. [1]
The fundraiser has been held annually since 1974 and has royal patronage, Nieuws.nl reported. The NRC says it aims to help displaced people find a safe home and hope for the future. [1]
