Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi says he will not seek a fourth term and wants Egypt’s military academy to help prepare future leaders before his current term ends in 2030, according to a report by Nieuws.nl citing ANP and Reuters. [1]
Sisi, a former army general, said on Saturday that a committee would draw up a profile for a leader and shape a training programme at the academy. It is to include the speaker of parliament, the ministers of higher education and justice, other politicians and intellectuals.
Egyptians would be able to choose from among those who complete the programme, the report said. Sisi did not explain how participants would initially be selected.
The report said there had been broad calls in Egypt for Sisi to remain in power after his third term. A fourth term is barred by the constitution, and Sisi said he ruled one out.
