North Holland has proposed extra support for Haarlem’s Bevrijdingspop festival in 2027, including a possible contribution towards any operating deficit. Organisers are due to decide in November whether the event can go ahead.

North Holland wants to give Haarlem’s Bevrijdingspop festival an extra €79,500 in 2027, alongside its existing €100,000 sponsorship, as organisers warn they may otherwise be unable to hold the event.
The province also says it is prepared to provide up to €100,000 to cover any operating deficit after the 2027 edition. It says the festival should remain free to attend.
Bevrijdingspop takes place each year on 5 May in De Haarlemmerhout park. Its organising board has also asked Haarlem municipality for additional funding.
The board is due to decide in November whether the festival can go ahead. Liberation festivals across the Netherlands have faced financial difficulties in recent years; the national government decided in 2025 to contribute to their funding on a permanent basis.
