BT has agreed to take over rival broadband provider TalkTalk, according to the BBC. TalkTalk has been close to administration because of its debts, the broadcaster reports. [1]
The BBC says TalkTalk has 1.5 million retail customers and one million wholesale customers across the UK. BT chief executive Alison Kirkby described the deal as a safety net for the households and businesses that rely on TalkTalk. [1]
The deal still requires approval from the UK's competition regulator. The BBC did not report a purchase price or a timetable for a decision. [1]
