The MKB-Nederland chair sees a possible social security agreement this year, but says the details and solutions would take longer.

Marijke Vuik, chair of the Dutch small-business association MKB-Nederland, said an outline agreement on social security with the cabinet and trade unions could be reached before the end of 2026. Speaking on the radio programme Sven op 1, she said the parties broadly shared an aim: to reduce the number of people declared unable to work and increase the number leaving that status. Her remarks were reported by ANP on 30 September. [1]
Vuik suggested agreeing broad principles first and working out the details later. She pointed to the 1982 Wassenaar Agreement, in which employers and unions agreed on wage restraint in exchange for shorter working hours, as an example of that approach. [1]
Vuik cautioned against expecting the issue to be fully resolved by the end of the year. An outline agreement would still need further work, she said, and there was no quick fix. [1]
