Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine lays off about half its staff

Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine has laid off about 30 staff — roughly half its workforce — as it refocuses on film and television production and Reese’s Book Club, Nieuws.nl reports, citing Variety.

The cuts come weeks after Witherspoon and media company Mediawan bought the company back from Candle Media. Witherspoon founded Hello Sunshine in 2016 and thanked its team for what it had built in a statement shortly after the deal, according to the report.

Some departments are being largely wound down as part of the new focus. Hello Sunshine has also made at least four rounds of redundancies over the past two years under its previous ownership, Nieuws.nl says.

The company has produced television series including *The Morning Show* and *Big Little Lies*, and the Oscar-nominated films *Gone Girl* and *Wild*.
