Dutch defence minister Dilan Yeşilgöz says she will look favourably at a call for more ships for the EU’s Aspides naval mission, but has made no commitment.

Speaking as EU defence ministers met in Brussels on Monday, Yeşilgöz described EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’s call for additional ships as important. She said the Netherlands would consider whether it could contribute as it moved towards the Strait of Hormuz, but cautioned that it had limited resources available for targeted deployments. [1]
The Dutch naval ship HNLMS Evertsen left Den Helder for the Middle East on Sunday. Yeşilgöz said she hoped the Netherlands could eventually help ensure safe passage for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, citing its importance to the Dutch economy and society. [1]
Yeşilgöz did not commit additional ships to Aspides or say that the Evertsen would join the EU mission. [1]
