The Dutch government has published a provisional national welfare budget of €8.2978bn for 2027. Municipalities use the funding to pay social assistance benefits and wage-cost subsidies. [1]
The 2027 total is €106.6m above the final 2026 budget. Of that difference, €46.6m is for general social assistance and related benefits, while €60m is for wage-cost subsidies. The government attributes the subsidy increase to growth in the group eligible for support and a new funding system. [1]
The final 2026 budget is €8.1912bn, up €245.2m from the provisional figure set for that year and €411.4m above the final 2025 budget. These figures are allocations, rather than amounts spent. [1]
Municipality-level budget files have also been published. The government says an online tool provides figures and a short explanation for each municipality’s allocation. [1]
