Hackney Council has opened an investigation after receiving a report about food safety and hygiene at Shoreditch House. The London venue’s former employee Kamran Khan told BBC News he had been pressured to replace labels on prepared food left unsold at the end of the day. [1][2]
Khan said he raised concerns in July and later made a formal complaint to Soho House. BBC News reported that the company told him on 24 August its internal investigation had found evidence supporting his claim. He said he complained to the council after the practice continued. Khan also told the BBC he regularly saw rats at the venue. [1]
Soho House apologised for what it called an “isolated food labelling incident”, saying it was against company policy. It said its health and safety director and an external consultant were investigating. Khan’s employment ended in September; the company said the decision was unrelated to his complaint. [1][2]
The Food Standards Agency’s record of an inspection on 3 March assessed food handling, the premises and food-safety management as “Good”. That inspection took place before Khan raised his concerns in July. [3]
