The UN Security Council has unanimously renewed the authorisation for the European Union-led EUFOR-Althea stabilisation force in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 12 months, adopting Resolution 2834 (2026) on 30 October.
The force is mandated to help implement the military aspects of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement and provisions concerning the boundary between Bosnia and Herzegovina’s two entities. The Council’s decision came after the country’s general election on 4 October.
The Council’s meeting notice had listed a debate and vote on the mandate renewal. Its published account confirms the resolution was adopted unanimously. The UN said a fuller summary of the meeting would be issued later.
The Dayton Agreement ended the 1992–95 conflict and established the framework for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political system, including its Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska entities. The Council’s renewal continues EUFOR-Althea’s authorisation for another year.
