The European Commission announced on Monday that it was setting aside a further €130 million for drone use and counter-drone measures at the EU’s borders. According to ANP, the money is intended to improve border surveillance and responses to hostile drone activity. The announcement concerns funding set aside, not money reported as spent. [1]
Another €250 million was set aside in late 2025 and €169 million earlier this year, including for surveillance drones that EU border states and the border agency Frontex could use. Together with the new allocation, that brings the reported total to €549 million. The Commission says the funding is intended to strengthen the EU’s external borders and improve security within the bloc. [1]
In February, the Commission also said it wanted to establish a counter-drone expertise centre to help member states share information and expertise. [1]
