SC Cambuur’s 4-0 lead over Go Ahead Eagles was followed by two firework bangs and the match’s abandonment, under stricter rules introduced in Dutch professional football in September.

SC Cambuur’s Eredivisie match against Go Ahead Eagles was abandoned in the closing stages on Saturday after a second firework bang was heard, Nieuws.nl reported.
Referee Serdar Gözübüyük first sent both teams to the dressing rooms after fireworks were heard when Cambuur went 4-0 ahead in the 80th minute. The match resumed after half an hour, but was permanently stopped shortly afterwards when another loud bang was heard. The report said the fireworks were believed to have come from the Go Ahead supporters’ section.
Stricter rules introduced in Dutch professional football in mid-September require matches to be abandoned immediately if fireworks are thrown or fired on to the pitch or towards other stands. The report noted concerns that supporters might exploit the rules when their team was losing heavily. It did not establish who set off the fireworks or why.
