Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win away to SC Freiburg, moving ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference. Both teams have 17 points, but Bayern’s goal difference is +19 to Dortmund’s +8.
Dortmund had gone top after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Saturday. Bayern, playing without head coach Vincent Kompany, took the lead in Freiburg through Dayot Upamecano in the 16th minute. Serge Gnabry doubled the advantage before half-time.
Freiburg made it 2-1 late on when a shot deflected off Bayern defender Tom Bischof and into his own goal. Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig then saved a Matthias Ginter header in added time, before Michael Olise scored from distance after a mistake by Freiburg goalkeeper Mio Backhaus.
