Leeds half-back Jake Connor misses out despite leading Super League in assists, while Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis takes a squad place.

Jake Connor has been left out of England’s Rugby League World Cup squad, with Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis selected instead, according to BBC Sport. Lewis joins captain George Williams of Warrington and Wigan’s Harry Smith as England’s half-back options. [1]
Connor, a Leeds Rhinos half-back and the 2025 Super League Man of Steel, had been expected to make the squad, BBC Sport reports. The 31-year-old recorded 43 assists in the Super League campaign just ended, more than any other player. England head coach Brian McDermott had also spoken favourably of him, according to the report. BBC Sport describes Lewis’s season as inconsistent but says McDermott chose him. Connor was also omitted from England’s squad for the home series against Australia in autumn 2025. [1]
