German police said searches were under way at 100 locations, including in North Rhine-Westphalia, with more than 1,000 officers involved. Fourteen arrest warrants were being executed, while authorities were moving to seize assets valued at about €48.6m. Parts of the investigation are taking place in the Netherlands, Belgium and Bulgaria, though the actions in those countries have not been specified. [1]
Police said the investigation concerns 71 suspects, including people linked to a money-laundering network operating in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, and senior members of a motorcycle club. Police did not name the club; German news agency dpa identified it as the Hells Angels. [1]
The suspects are accused of offences including forming a criminal organisation, armed and business-related extortion, organised fraud and money laundering. [1]
