NOS Weer, a new three-minute weather segment, will begin airing after the Netherlands’ 8pm news bulletin on Monday, giving the broadcaster more time for forecasts, longer-term trends and regional differences.
The item will be presented in rotation by Marco Verhoef, Willemijn Hoebert, Peter Kuipers Munneke and Roosmarijn Knol. The usual weather forecast at the end of the bulletin will remain, Nieuws.nl reports.
The NOS says its weather presenters felt there was more to explain than could fit into the existing forecast. The new segment will be recorded in the broadcaster’s new studio, which made its debut in Sunday’s 8pm bulletin.
From Monday, the studio will also be used for the 6pm NOS Journaal, the NOS Youth News and Nieuwsuur. The previous studio had been in use for ten years. The NOS says the new set offers more technological possibilities, including extended and augmented reality.
The broadcaster is also giving its website, app and social media accounts a new look. Editor-in-chief Giselle van Cann said the redesign was intended to make it clearer when information comes from the NOS, amid a media landscape increasingly shaped by opaque algorithms.
