Speaking ahead of a meeting with EU energy ministers in Dublin, Jørgensen said the bloc had spent more than 100 billion extra on energy in 2026 without receiving any additional oil or gas, Dutch news agency ANP reported. [1]
He argued that the cost showed why the EU should reduce its reliance on energy from elsewhere and replace imported fossil fuels with green electricity generated at home. [1]
Jørgensen also said he would examine whether methane reporting rules for oil and gas importers, due to apply from 2027, could be postponed. Member states have raised concerns about their effect on imports; no delay has been decided. [1]
