Dutch skaters will have a new route to the world single-distance championships, while a qualifying tournament will shape men’s team-pursuit selection.

The Dutch skating federation, KNSB, has announced two changes to its selection procedures for the season after the Olympics. Individual skaters will have a route to the World Single Distances Championships through World Cup results, while men’s team-pursuit selection for the first two World Cups will be based on a qualifying tournament, according to an ANP report published by Nieuws.nl. [1]
To qualify for the championships through the new route, a skater must be in the top three of the international standings after four World Cups, have won at least one World Cup and be the highest-ranked Dutch skater. That could allow leading skaters to skip January’s Dutch single-distance championships, which also serve as a qualifier for the world championships. [1]
For the men’s team pursuit, results at the World Cup qualifying tournament will determine selection for the first two World Cups, rather than an appointment by national coach Rintje Ritsma. The tournament winner will automatically enter the World Cup circuit. The report does not explain how the other skaters will be selected. [1]
