King Haakon opened Norway’s parliamentary year on Friday for the first time as monarch. In the government-written throne speech, he called for Norway to be a safe country with opportunities for everyone. [1]
He described democratic trust and strong local communities as strengths at a time of growing international unrest. The speech said economic security was under pressure and daily life was becoming more expensive; giving people more financial room was presented as a government aim. [1]
Haakon became king after his father Harald died in late August. He had read a throne speech before, as regent in 2020 while Harald was ill. Queen Mette-Marit stayed at home with a respiratory infection on Friday, while Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra accompanied him. [1]
