The Calandbrug in Rotterdam’s Botlek area will remain closed to road traffic and shipping on Tuesday morning after a fault left its movable section partly open, ProRail said on Monday evening. Road users must take a detour. [1]
The bridge’s section became stuck halfway open on Monday afternoon. ProRail’s spokesperson said engineers had identified which pier contained the fault, but had not yet established its precise cause. The mechanism is complex, she said, and repairs cannot be carried out overnight. [1]
Earlier this month, the former railway bridge was also closed to road traffic for several days after lasers gave incorrect measurements. The report did not say whether that earlier problem was related to the current fault. [1]
