Pidcock said two of his Pinarello-Q36.5 team-mates, Marcel Camprubi and Thomas Gloag, were hit by a police vehicle travelling the wrong way along the course at the Tre Valli Varesine in Italy. He said the incident initially made him want to stop racing. [1]
BBC Sport reports that the riders were knocked off their bikes with six laps of the finishing circuit remaining. Camprubi continued, but Gloag stopped and needed stitches to his knee. Pidcock finished second behind Jarno Widar, who won in a sprint finish. [1]
Pidcock told Eurosport he was angry to see two riders who had been working for him on the ground, but said he was glad to have reached the podium. BBC Sport said it had contacted the race organisers and local police for comment. [1]
