Arsenal are planning to cut up to 60 off-field jobs. Mikel Arteta says he was told the decision was intended to help the club improve and achieve its ambitions.
Arsenal plan to cut up to 60 jobs, affecting as many as 7% of the club’s 871 permanent staff, with the reductions confined to off-field roles. Manager Mikel Arteta says he was told the changes were intended to help the club improve and achieve its ambitions.
The cuts will not affect coaching or performance staff in the men’s or women’s teams, nor employees of the Arsenal Foundation, Arsenal in the Community or the club’s security staff, the BBC reports. Chief executive Richard Garlick informed staff of the plans this week.
Asked about the decision at a news conference ahead of Sunday’s match at Nottingham Forest, Arteta said an analysis of the club had been carried out “with the intention always to evolve, to improve”. He added that decisions had to be made “to put people in the right roles, and keep investing, to achieve what we want to achieve, the success that we want to create”.
Arteta said he was not the right person to answer questions about the cuts. The workforce review, conducted by an external company, was under way before Arsenal won the Premier League last season.
The announcement follows Arteta’s new four-year contract, agreed a week earlier. Arsenal reported record revenue of £691m for the 2024-25 financial year, but made an overall loss of £1.4m. Operating costs rose to £200.8m from £147.9m the previous year. [1]
