Aryna Sabalenka beat Renata Zarazua 6-1, 6-3 in 63 minutes in her opening match at the China Open in Beijing. The world number two served 11 aces and did not face a break point in her first match since losing her top ranking and US Open title to Elena Rybakina in September. [1]
Asked about being self-critical after the win, Sabalenka said expecting more of herself could drive her forward but also drain her energy. “I’m really trying so hard sometimes to be easier on myself,” she said. [1]
Sabalenka, who won Indian Wells and the Miami Open in March, was due to face 20-year-old Czech player Nikola Bartunkova in the third round. [1]
