New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency as a nor’easter brought coastal flooding to parts of the north-eastern US on Saturday. Tens of millions of people were in the storm’s path, though that is not a count of those affected by flooding or power cuts. [1]
Floodwater entered streets and homes in Surf City and Manasquan, on the New Jersey coast. In Brooklyn, a man was killed by a falling tree, CBS News reported in an account cited by the BBC. [1]
The BBC cited tracker PowerOutage for more than 100,000 households that had lost electricity, nearly all in the north-east. It cited FlightAware for more than 2,400 delayed flights and 1,199 grounded flights. [1]
The National Weather Service warned of dangerous coastal flooding, strong winds and heavy rain in areas including New York City and Boston. New York officials warned that gusts could reach 55mph over the weekend, with trees and power lines at risk. [1]
