Actor Maarten Spanjer married his partner, Monique Waterham, five days before his death, she told De Telegraaf. Spanjer died aged 73 in the early hours of Saturday, Nieuws.nl reported. [1]
Waterham said the couple married in hospital in a small ceremony arranged as an emergency wedding. Spanjer had told her: “I want to go into the coffin as a married man,” according to the newspaper.
She said his condition deteriorated sharply two days later and he was moved to a hospice, where he died.
Spanjer was known for his role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1980 film *Spetters* and for the television programme *Taxi*, in which he spoke with passengers while working as a taxi driver.
